Cumberland Advisors Market Commentary – Bipartisan House Members: “Enough Is Enough”

Author: David R. Kotok, Post Date: September 17, 2020

The bipartisan House Problem Solvers Caucus (, led by Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Tom Reed (R-NY) includes around 50 House members, both Republicans and Democrats. They have proposed a US pandemic aid package that amounts to $1.5 trillion and continues unemployment aid at $450/week, increasing over time to $600/week but not to exceed a recipient’s previous wage.

Their proposal also addresses other urgent needs: “$500 billion for state and local governments, $15 billion for the U.S. Postal Service and $400 million for election assistance.” (“Frustrated lawmakers draft their own pandemic aid package,” Politico,

The White House appears prepared to further the conversation: “White House’s Meadows says moderates’ COVID relief plan could lead to more talks,”

We applaud the Problem Solvers’ bipartisan leadership, which is what this country urgently needs in order to get our COVID-19 recovery back on the rails. Democratic and Republican leadership in the Senate and the House are not getting the job done, and the economic recovery is being jeopardized because of the stalemate between them. And this bill will save LIVES.

Readers, we encourage you to send a message to your House member: Join the bipartisan caucus and stop the partisan crap that partners with the COVID crisis to cripple our economic capacity going forward. If your congressional representative is already a member of the caucus forging a bipartisan solution, offer your thanks and affirmation. Note: WH signals Trump will sign it if it passes both House and Senate.

Below are the names of American patriots. They deserve praise; their colleagues deserve a kick in the butt.
