Best. State. Ever.: A Florida Man Defends His Homeland, by Dave Barry.
Five years ago, long before a pandemic took a tragic turn in the Best State Ever and other states besides, Dave Barry published a wonderful book that invited us to laugh about Florida, his chosen home and ours, and its quirks. Let me recommend Barry’s book to everyone who is in Florida but hasn’t quite figured out yet why Florida is the way it is. I would also recommend it to anyone who is thinking about moving to Florida but hasn’t quite pulled the trigger yet. Forewarned is forearmed.
In Dave Barry’s humorous history of the state, you will learn that the Florida legislature has taken up a bill to give alligators the right to vote — and, having been given many examples of the Florida Weirdness Factor, you will begin to understand why they did so. Enjoy the book, laugh a lot, and when you come here, you’ll already know why many Florida drivers cannot hear, cannot see, and refuse to use turn indicators.
