John R. Mousseau is currently the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Fixed Income at Cumberland Advisors. In this capacity, John also serves as a portfolio manager and has overall responsibility for portfolio construction, management, analysis, trading, and research for all tax-free and taxable bond accounts.
Known affectionately as “Moose” to friends and colleagues, John “Moose” Mousseau writes regular financial markets commentary with a focus on fixed-income for Cumberland Advisors' list of email subscribers and produces video updates about the fixed-income market tailored toward other professionals in the industry. This series of video updates are known as “Moose on Bonds” and he releases these, barring unusual circumstances and/or holidays, on a weekly basis. John's comments and analyses have appeared in The Bond Buyer, Barron’s, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News, Bloomberg Magazine, Forbes, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Herald Tribune, The New York Times, and occasionally contributes to the Municipal Finance Journal. In addition, he has appeared on Bloomberg Television and Radio, Reuters, CNBC, and on Sarasota-Manatee’s local media for commentary on fixed-income investments and the broader financial markets. He also co-authored the book, "Adventures in Muniland."
John continues to speak at various industry conferences and has spoken as a guest lecturer at Florida International University, Oxford University, and the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus. He has also taught as an instructor at the New York Institute of Finance and the Bond Market Association.
John has over 40 years of investment management experience. Prior to joining Cumberland in 2000, he was the Director of Municipal Bond Investments for Lord Abbett & Company. He also worked previously for Shearson Lehman Brothers and E.F. Hutton. John holds an B.A. in economics from Georgetown University and an M.A. in economics from Brown University, and he is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He is a member of the Philadelphia Council for Business Economics (PCBE), the National Federation of Municipal Analysts (NFMA), the National Association of Business Economics (NABE), the Washington Association of Money Managers (WAMM), and the National Economists Club (NEC). He is also a member and past chair of the Municipal Bond Buyers Conference.
John resides in Sarasota, Florida, is active in alumni affairs at Georgetown University, and is a past president of the Rotary Club of Sarasota Bay. He is a member of the Tampa Bay chapter of the CFA Institute and a member of the Gulf Coast CEO Forum.
