I came away more deeply informed and with greater clarity as to what we know now versus what we don't know yet.
Virologist Shane Crotty, who is a professor at the Center for Infectious Diseases and Vaccine Research, La Jolla Institute for Immunology, discusses the Delta variant versus the variants that preceded it and details what we know about the efficacy of vaccines against Delta, waning immunity, boosters, and the prospect that other problematic variants might arise in the future.
Infectious disease expert Carlos Del Rio maps the state of the pandemic (as of mid-August); assesses the importance of non-pharmacologic interventions, such as masking, during the Delta surge; and discusses vaccinations, who needs boosters and who probably doesn't, and what living with COVID will come to look like. Carlos Del Rio is executive associate dean at the Emory School of Medicine & Grady Health System and a professor of medicine working in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University.
